Tokyo Hiking Tour: Mt. Mitake + Tattoo‑Friendly Hot Spring

7 hours

Moderate

A scenic mountain hike through Mt. Mitake’s forests and waterfalls, followed by a relaxing soak in a tattoo‑friendly hot spring with beautiful outdoor baths. The perfect nature escape from Tokyo.

Escape the city and immerse yourself in the peaceful nature of Mt. Mitake on this full‑day hiking and hot spring adventure. We begin with a scenic cable car ride up the mountain, where a charming village and ancient shrine sit high above the valley. After exploring the shrine grounds and enjoying panoramic views, we follow forest trails toward the famous Rock Garden — a lush, moss‑covered valley filled with clear streams, waterfalls, and cedar trees. It’s one of the most beautiful and tranquil hiking areas in Tokyo (yes, it is still in Tokyo - rural Tokyo).

The hike continues through quiet mountain paths before gradually opening into the countryside, leading us directly to a traditional Japanese hot spring. This tattoo‑friendly onsen is known for its silky, mineral‑rich water and relaxing atmosphere. You can enjoy both indoor and outdoor baths with mountain views, try the small sauna and cold plunge, or simply unwind after the hike. It’s the perfect way to end a day spent in nature.

Throughout the experience, your guide shares local insights, helps with transportation, and ensures a smooth and enjoyable day. Whether you’re looking for a refreshing escape from Tokyo, a peaceful forest hike, or a chance to experience authentic Japanese onsen culture, this tour offers a memorable blend of adventure, relaxation, and natural beauty.

Please note

This tour is best suited for guests with good mobility and a comfortable fitness level, as the hike lasts around 3–4 hours. The trails are not extreme — it’s more of a peaceful mountain walk — but there are natural inclines and uneven terrain throughout. Because it is a real mountain hike, it may feel challenging for those who are not used to some physical activity.

    What to bring
      • Comfortable walking or hiking shoes — the trails have natural terrain, roots, and some inclines.
      • Weather‑appropriate clothing
      • Snacks (optional)
      • Suica/PASMO (digital or physical) or Cash — needed for the bus and cable car
      • Towel for the onsen — or you can rent one at the Hot Spring Facility.
      • Small backpack — to carry personal items comfortably during the hike
      • Swimwear NOT needed — onsens in Japan are nude and separated by gender.
